The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms.
The Greater Minneapolis Section helps meet the needs of women, children and families through community service projects, advocacy education programs and member events.
Fall Event: Rose Rees 75th Anniversary Celebration
Mark your calendar for a special Fall Event on October 7, in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Rose Rees Peace Awards. The event, which will take place at Golden Valley Country Club, will honor past Rose Rees award recipients and recognize past Rose Rees volunteers. Details to follow.

Join us for a Legislative Wrap-Up of the 2009-2010 Session on Thursday, July 8, 11:30am – 1:00 pm at Lurie Besikoff, located at 2501 Wayzata Blvd in Minneapolis (Hwy 394/Penn Ave).
Professor David Schultz of Hamline University will provide a broad overview of how state politics connects with the national political scene. Nan Madden, director of the Budget Project for the MN Council of Nonprofits, will share how the Legislature's actions will affect nonprofit organizations serving women, children and families.

Join us for Parallel Lives -- a special presentation by two female paratroopers and their male counterparts from the Israel Defense Forces Paratroopers Reconnaissance Unit -- on April 19, 12:15 p.m. at the Ridgeview Office Center (13100 Wayzata Blvd, Minnetonka). The event, sponsored by NCJW and the Women’s Philanthropy of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation, is part of the Israel Program Center's yearlong theme, "Women in Israel.
There is no cost for the event, which is open to members and non-members. You may bring a dairy lunch.

NCJW is sponsoring the film, Killing Kasztner, on April 14 at 7:15 p.m. at the 2010 Jewish Film Festival. The film is about Israel Kasztner, a Hungarian Jew who negotiated with the Nazis for the lives of thousands during the Holocaust. The film examines his legacy; is he a hero or a villain? It also provides, for the first time, the perspectives of his daughter and granddaughter. There will be a dessert reception prior to the film at 6:00 p.m., and director Gaylen Ross will lead a discussion after the film.

NCJW is a co-sponsor for the Israel Program Center of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation’s year-long theme, “Women in Israel.” The series of educational events celebrate the achievements of Israeli women, as well as the unique challenges faced by women in Israel.
The next Women in Israel event will be held at Adath Jeshurun. It will feature Gabriela Shalev, the first Israeli woman to be ambassador to the UN. For more information, contact Noga Shavit, 952-381-3551, nshavit@mplsfed.org.

Join us on April 7 for a lunch and learn program with NCJW supporter and community activist Sylvia Kaplan as she shares her experiences about the striking country where she is currently living with her husband, Sam Kaplan, the US Ambassador to Morocco. This event is co-sponsored by the Women’s Philanthropy of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation. It will take place in the Levin Family Board Room at the Ridgeview Office Center (home to both the Federation and NCJW). Feel free to bring a dairy bag lunch - and a friend!

Plan now to attend our annual Spring Event, Monday May 3 at 6:45 p.m. Join us at the Science Museum in St. Paul to view the Dead Sea Scrolls. Learn about their remarkable discovery, while in the company of Jewish women from around the Twin Cities.
The event will include a guided tour of the Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit. Prior to the exhibit, we will gather for a brief reception and program to recognize our dedicated volunteers. Cost is $36 for members ($40 for non-members), which includes the reception and entrance to the Exhibit.

NCJW is a co-sponsor of this thought-provoking and action-oriented forum about health care reform in Minnesota. The event will be held Tuesday Jan 26, 7 p.m., at the Sabes JCC.
The focus is on budget cuts to the state’s General Assistance Medical Care program and how the Jewish community is responding.
